OUR POST 18
Had a Q&A Session after the Veteran Brunch on Sunday 2/15/26.
The Q&A Session was for all members, our Post 18 Family. We put it on Calling Post to all reminding all of our Veteran's Brunch from 8:00am to 12:00 noon. Also informing all we where going to have a Q&A Session in which all would be able to voice there concerns about what ever was on their mind as per our Post present and future for all. So we had a good group of members from each group in which we call our Amvets Post 18 Family. It was on a Positive manner with the talk on what would like to be addressed to make the Post better so we can move forward into 2026 and beyond.
See below what suggestions where made:
1) Members would like if the Post could do Calling Post and any other form of communications, to please give a naught advance notice so members can be able to make the time to attend.
2) Why is the Bar not open?
3) Why pay a band for our parades or events how about looking to start our own Band.?
4) The Posts Veteran's meetings are to long.
5) 5 years ago we had our last RED SHIRT on Friday, why can't we bring this back?
6) Can we have a News Letter or Web Site Calendar plus an information platform?
7) we have to be mindful of our Ladies Aux. has their monthly meeting the 1st Friday of each month.
8) May be we can have the following events:
A) Pickle ball event (Tournament).
B) Trivia Night.
C) Queen of Hearts game.
9) At this Q&A Session we Formed a St. Patrick's Day Committee, this committee is formed to take care of the Posts St Patrick's Day March 17th Tuesday Posts Family Member for a social with food drink and anything they come up with to make a great time for all family member. We all agreed the committee will be maned with two members from each groups. Below is our start of this committee.
Command: Post Commander: Fred Vatter 2nd Vice Commander: George Podlaha Veteran's: Rich Baran, Francis Brennan Ladies: Madame: Josephine Peal, Victoria Vatter Son's: Clay
10) Need to work on the Installation Dinner.
11) We need to work together for AADDA for a due date of April 1st 2026.
12) Also we need to work together on Americanism project due 1st to Department of NY. (Easy & Poster).
Answers to the suggestions from above:
1) On the most part the commander and Post communications system does put out information on a timely matter with enough time for members to be able to have the time needed to be able to be part of. This last Calling Post was put out as a reminder of our Veteran Brunch and hoping for a great showing as we do as our Veteran Families look forward in coming, to see all and BS a little with great people and food. We piggy backed on the Brunch and reminder message and added the Q&A Session message hoping we would be able to catch two birds with one net. And the Post Command new how important and so needed this Session is and needed to be addressed as soon as possible. The Command has been addressed that there is a problem so moving forward our Command is taking action as you can see. Again yes, information will be in advance with the exception as all know emergency's and wakes.
2) The Bar has been approved to be remodeled and to open. After the remodeling we would take a look on when we would open taking it slow making sure we have everything covered and in place for a successful opening. We have also talked about even at this last Q&A Session to maybe open slow with maybe a RED SHIRT FRIDAY again. this has always been a hit with a big Veteran purpose.
3) We've had a band in the past in fact Rickie one of our sons was in it. We as the Post don't have a problem with having a band, just we would need a person or persons to take the lead and start forming the Amvets Post 18 Band. The Post would help as they can again we need members to take charge and run with it. Any takers???
4) Veterans Meetings to long. Yes, Post Bylaws and Robert Rules of Order need to be enforced. Provost Marshal needs to keep law and order as well. Be it the Commander or how ever is running the meeting they need to keep it in check run it as a meeting not as a party. Keep it moving in a positive forward movement to achieve a goal.
5) Yes as said above for the Bar RED was always a great night with a great purpose. And yes we will look to bring it back.
6) Ok we do have a web site for a long time now. amvetspost18einy.org we are on it right now and are in the news area. Also we have a calendar for Post and every group.
7) The Ladies have their monthly meeting the 1st Friday of each month we need to be mindful of this and the Ladies also said they can make it work.
8) The events stated above are great and we get the help to run and promote them we are always open for this kind of things.
9) At the Q&A Session we formed a St. Patrick's Day Committee, this committee will take care of St> Patrick's Day Event at the Post on March 17th Tuesday. Posts Family Member for a social with food drink and anything they come up with to make a great time for all family member. We all agreed the committee will be maned with two members from each groups. Below is our start of this committee.
